Lucy is 6 years old and has a thing about squirrels and going to the groomers. Unfortunately she can't read and will be relying on her hooman to read the PSPO and make sure that she behaves herself when she's out and about.

Please do the same for your hound.

Dog Owners

Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is responsible for many things that impact the Southoe and Midloe community. It has a stated aims to improve the quality of life for local people by preserving the District of Huntingdonshire as a place which attracts employers and visitors, and that residents are proud to call home.

In line with these aims, and as a response to an increase in complaints received by HDC regarding anti-social behaviours involving dogs and their owners, HDC has published a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) that explains the responsibilities of dog owners within Huntingdonshire.

If you have responsibility for a dog, or take a dog out for exercise in Southoe and its environs, you should make yourself familiar with the PSPO as it details:

  • When and where you must keep your dog on a lead

    • For Southoe, the PSPO specifically lists, but is not limited to:

Play Area Football Field, Rectory Lane, Southoe: The whole hedged and fenced football playing field, with access to Rectory Lane, Town Orchard and Southoe Play Area.

  • Your responsibilities for clearing up and disposing of your dogs' poo

  • Areas in Huntingdonshire where dogs are not permitted

  • Your responsibility for taking steps to prevent your dog(s) from damaging or destroying any other animal(s), whether domestic or wild

  • Your responsibility for controlling your dog(s)

  • Your responsibility for complying with local signs specifying restricted access or lead control for dogs

  • Other important aspects of taking your dog out in public spaces

The fines for not complying with the PSPO are significant so it it important that you make sure you know what is expected of you.

Owning a dog is a lovely thing, they make us laugh and keep us company and take us for walks and we should never let them become a nuisance to others. Familiarise yourself with the information in the PSPO and help to make Southoe and Midloe a clean and safe place and somewhere that people envy.
